I can never have too many movement songs for kids! Here are 3 of my favorites for Spring (and maybe a few more ;)

3 | Ten Little Blossoms

This song was written for counting goals, but I love adding a kinesthetic piece to learning!! It is a great way to support ALL learners (and it's so much FUN)!

  • Spread out a parachute on the ground.

  • Grab 10 fake flowers!

  • Circle up around the parachute.

  • Pass out the flowers. Start the song! (it starts with 10 counting to zero, which gives you just enough time to give or model the instructions!)

  • Instruct students that they will go around the circle, tossing the flowers on the parachute one at a time, singing and counting as you toss!

  • When the song starts counting from 1 up to 10, sing, count and toss along!

  • When the song starts back at 10, lift the parachute up and down until there are "no more blossoms in the garden"!

  • Gather the flowers, and start again!

2 | Hey! Little Wiggle Worm

This silly song is great for identifying insects (by using the coordinating visual you see below from my Spring Bundle!), instrument play (find an instrument to represent each bug!) and OF COURSE, MOVEMENT!

Just dance: Wiggle like a worm (shake those hips!), buzz like a bumble bee (fists in armpits and flap those little elbows!!), flutter like a butterfly (now wave your whole arms for the long flowing wings), hop like a grasshopper, and CRAAAAAWL like a snail! Check out my routine for the bridge here ;)

OR

Add a Stretchy Band like the one pictured from Bear Paw Creek! Sit in a circle, holding the band and: Wiggle it (pump your arms like they are pedaling!); Buzz it (shake it really fast!); Flutter (do the wave - slowly raise and lower your left arm, then raise and lower your right arm, then the next person does it, then the next, all around the circle!!); then stand and hop while holding on! For the snail, slowly walk toward the center!

The song uses the isoprinciple to meet wiggly giggly kids where they are at, and by the end, it slows them down - helping them to regulate and have brains and bodies that are calm!

1 | Spring is Here

This one also has a coordinating visual (printable like you see below, or a google slides version that you can pull up on a tablet or classroom screen! - find it in my Spring Bundle!)

It alternates a more chill verse, identifying "signs of spring!" Rain and puddles, planting seeds and watching flowers grow, and birds flying to their nests! And SILLY CHORUSES, intended for movement! Jump and stomp in "puddles" as you "splishy, splashy!" Pretend to plant seeds and pull weeds as you're "digging, digging, digging, digging!" And fly like birds as you "flap flap" and "tweet tweet!"

I have done this with the visual + movement, and I have also done it with scarves!! Check out demos of both versions below!

More song ideas include:

  • seated hand movements for "And the Thunder Went, BOOM!"

  • and sensory play with "Help to Grow" or "Let the Rain Fall Down!"
